Matthew and Occoneechee

Pretty park, hard to spell

There have been some questions about a nifty little hurricane that hit the coast of North Carolina last week. It is understood that there was a fair bit of damage out at the coast. But as the Piedmont of North Carolina is quite a it inland, the immediate area was only slightly inconvenienced. A tree fell somewhere out in the woods. Puddles occured. Power did not go out, although there was flickering. The wind was enjoyably noisy.  A week on and there is no evidence of a severe storm. And the garden did not require watering for almost a week.

Enjoying’ da mushrooms from all the rain

There was definitely severe flooding nearby. A Sunday hike in Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area showed the Eno River overflowed its banks by somewhere between ten and twenty feet. And the paths by the river were pretty muddy. But seems all is back to normal now.
